Foyr prospecting licenses were issued last month at Ashburton, the areas applied- for, (209 acres) being part of the .Ninety-mile Beach. . , Protection has been approved for six months in favour of the Consolidated Goldfields of New Zealand for four special claims. The Warden at Hokitika states that the company -is now employing eighty men in race-construction in connection with its water-supply from the Arahura River, as the present supply is wholly inadequate to deal with the material to be disposed of. The Golden Blocks mine at Taitapu (West Wanganui) has cleaned up for a return of 1970z gold from 190 tons of stone.
