Page, Town Clerk of Wellington, who has b«en in the service of the City Council for twe-nty-four years, have been recognised by the Council granting him six months' leave trf absence. Mr. Page intends to pay a visit to the Old Country, and tha holiday has been granted by the Coumqil on the understanding that it can be extended to nine months if necessary. He does not intend taking his holiday before February or Marob, Mr. Chappie will act as Town Clerk during Mr. Page's absence. Captain Lauchlan M'Lean, who died at Nelson, at the age of 66, was for twentyfive years master of sailing ships between India and England. He retired from the sea many years ago owing to ill health. Ho came to Nelson from -Christchurch sixteen or seventeeu years' ago, and had been living upon his property ever since. He suffered very much from a complication o'6 diseases, the immediate cause of death being apoplexy.
