OTA GO PRESBYTERIAN SYNOD.

[PRESS ASSOCIATION.] ' DUNEDIN, 2nd November. At the Presbyterian Synod to-day, a temperance report was submitted. Among the recommendations were : — That a strong protest be made against (a) the non-enforcement of the liquor laws, (b) the abolition qi local option in favour of provincial option, (c) giving to Magistrates discretion in the matter of endorsing licenses when the licensee has been convicted of breach of the Licensing Act, (d) giving to the Colonial Secretary power to grant licenses in respect of premises in special places for the convenience of tourist traffic. The recommendations were adopted, strong opposition" being/ declared to licenses in the King Country. It was reported that £9700 had been promised for the Jubilfee Memorial Fund, of which about £8000 is now in. hand. The report on the sustentation fund showed that the contributions had exceeded those of the previous year by £2700. The mission report was adopted, the Premier being thanked for his readiness to ask for an enqnh'y into French aggression in the New Hebrides. The Synod trusted the Islands would soon be made part of the British Empire.
