LORD RANFURLY'S OPINION.
Lord Ranfurly, upon his arrival in Christchurch, granted an interview to a Press representative, during the course of which His Excellency said he regarded the results of his trip to the Islands as highly satisfactory. The pressman asked the Governor what was the position as regards Suwarrow Island, which was not included in the list of islands the Governor was to annex. Prom Lord Ranfurly's reply it appears that Suwarrow is either a British possession or a British protectorate. At any rate, it is at the present moment let on a long lease, which will not expire for another twelve or thirteen years. It seems that it may be regarded as safe from outside interference. The Press representative was proceeding to ask a few questions as to the future of tho annexed islands, but His Excel' lency good-naturedly warned him that he was getting a little too near questions of policy. The Governor's, opinion, however, seems to be thai? the tra.<Je <?i tjie islands might be very largely developeq, though the harbour accommodation is not all that could be desired.
