[PRBSS ASSOCIATION.] LONDON, Ist November. BANK OP ENGLAND RETURNS. The Bank of England return issued for the week ending Wednesday, 31st October, is as under :—: —

GOVERNMENT SECURITIES. The following are the latsßt quotations for Government securities :—

Interest payable iv May and November, tlnteresb payable in January and July. payable iv April and October. THE MONET MARKET. The market rate of discount for best three, months' bills is i higher, at 4 per cent. The Bank of England rate is 4 pev oent., as against 3 per cent, on the 18th July, 3£ per cent* on the 14fch June, and 4 per cent, on the 23rd May. COLONIAL AND OTHER PRODUCE. Wheat. — Mild weather, superabundant supplies, and falling 1 markets in America greatly depress the English and Continental markets. A lightermen's strike is also severely hindering the trade of London. For cargoes for prompt delivery, 30s 3d per quarter c.i.f . is being askod. Sugar. — The market is dull. German beet, 88deg., lsd lower, at 9s 6d per owb; first mark, granulated, f .».b. Hamßurg, 3d lower at 11s 3d per owfc. Butter.— The market has barely maintained its position. Choicest colonial is making 110s, as against 110s to 112s last week, and 106s to 108s last year. A few special lots are selling up to 1225. Danish, unchanged at 1245. Wool. — At the sales'prioes are firm at the highest rates of the series. The clips sold included "Maaqupe" at 9fd, "JPataka" at Bd, and " A eland/ afc B§d. Bradford Tops. — The market is improving. Common sixties, unchanged, at 17^d per lbj super sixties, unchanged at IB£d per lb. THE PRICES OP METALS. Copper, steady. —Spot, unchanged, at J272 per ton; three' months', 5s higher, at J272 12s 6dper ton. Tin is firm— Spot, 5s higher, at J2127 15s per ton ; three months', £125 per ton. Pig iron — Glasgow warrants, No. 1, cash, 6d lower, at 66s per tun f.o.b. in Clyde. Lead, unchanged, at .£l7 los per ton. Spelter, 15s lower, at Jss per ton. Bar silver is quoted at 2s ssd par oz. INVERCARGILL, 2nd November. The oats market is flat and business is restricted to small orders for Australia. Present value for best prime feed are Is ££d to Is 3d (sacks sd) on trucks. At upcountry stations the weather has cleared up somewhat. The rain was beneficial, and no losses among lambs are yet reported. * The Customs duties collected at the Port of Wellington for the week ending to-day amounted to .£7392 11s 2d. Beer, .£136 15s Messrs. Abraham and Williams report,: ! — At Palmerston on Thursday wa had a smaller yarding than usual. Good bullooks and all lines of steers found ready purchasers. A few lines of young cattle were turned out unsold, the reserves being considered top .high.
