GENERAL TELEGRAMS.
[press association.] CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Several persons had their pockets picked at Lyttelton yesterday. The police arrested a man on suspicion of being concerned in the thefts. At about 5 p.m., when the constable brought him his tea in Lyttelton lock-up, he made an excuse for going outside, and suddenly leaped over fhe fence. He ran up Ox-ford-street, and into Winchester-street and Canterbury-street, pursued by the constable, who was calling out all the time. Near the Church of England Cemetery two civilians stopped the man, and he was captured and taken back to the lock-up. DUNEDIN, Ist November. The* telegraph authorities at Queenstown advised late yesterday that the weather was very showery, with heavy falls of snow at the head of Lake Wakatipu It is estimated there that as much snow has fallen ■in the back country as fcl! fourteen years ago, when there were heavy floods. Should a warm wind act in, there will be every prospect of another big flood. [our own correspondent.] NELSON, This Day. One step of importance to the Craft taken by the Masonic Grand Lodge yesterday in revising its constitution was the abolition of the' proxy system of voting at its Communications. The system hitherto obtaining, under which absent members of Grand Lodge were allowed to vote by post, was at the same time swept away. The Wellington, Northern, and Southern delegates return by the Takapuna, leaving this afternoon.
