A sad accident occurred on the Humphrey's head-race works (says the Hokitika Times) resulting in the death of Mr. John Foster. It appears that, with his brother Edward, he was engaged rolling tho root stem of a large tree over the bank. As it was going over, one of the roots, which had not been noticed by either of the brothers, caught him under the knee and carried him with it. Tho j whole mass went down the hill with great velocity, and Mr. John Faster was brought into vio'ent contact with a standing tree, which he struck with his head, death being instantaneous.
