CRICKET. PHŒNIX CLUB.

The twenty-second annual meeting of the Phoenix Club was held at the Occidental Hotel last night. Mr. C. W. Benbow was in the Chair, and there were about 40 members present. The trophies won last season were handed over to the winners by the Chairman. The "Cock" trophy, awarded by the votes of the members present to the player who had displayed the best all-round service for the club during last season, fell to Mr. F. A. Aiidlane. Nine new members were elected, including Mr. A. E. Clarke, the exVictorian and Otago batsman, and Mr. W. J. Calloway, late of the Albert Club, Sydney. The election of officers resulted as follows: — President, Mr. John Duncan (re-elected) ; Vice-Presidents, Dr. T. Cahill, Messrs. P. Allen, C. W. Benbow, M. Fox, H. Gully, C. P. Skerret*. H. H. Tnrnbull (re-elected) and J. H. Richardson j Honorary Secretary, Mr. C. T. Midlane (re-elected) ; Honorary Treasurer, M. E. B. Vance (e-elected) 5 Management Committee, Messrs. G. Webb, G. Miliward (re-elected), R. Halley, P. Glasgow, and 0. E. Stevens ; Senior Match Committee, Messrs. A. E. Clarke, R. Halley, and P. A. Midlano ; Junior and Third-class Match Committee, Messrs. T. R. Cooko, O. E. Hickey, and C. T. Midlane ; Delegates to the Cricket Association, Messrs. C. T. Midlane, G. Webb, and E. B. Vanco (re-elected) ; Honorary Auditor, Mr. L. E. St. George. Votes of thanks were accorded to the retiring officers. The representatives of the club were instructed to propose to the Cricket Association that a junior representative match be arranged with the Hutt Valley Club or some other representative team. At the termination of the business the members spent a social hour together, and several toasts were honoured. HUTT VALLEY ASSOCIATION. The annual report of the Hutt Valley Cricket Association, to be presented at the meeting of the delegates on Thursday night, congratulates the Association on its now excellent position, and acknowledges the co-operation and support received from affiliated clubs. The Association began its career with six senior teams and a junior. The Upper Hutt, Western Hutt, Waiwetu, Petone United, St. Augustine, and Korokoro each entered a team for the Senior Championship, and th 6 Upper Hutt, Waiwetu, Petono Unied, St. Augustine, and Korokoro two teams for Junior Championship honours. Two rounds were ■ played in eacb competition on the home and home principle, and the Senior Championship Avas won by the Petone United with the record of winning nine out of ten matches played, the Waiwetu being second with eigbt wins. The Korokoro A team won the' Junior Championship with an. unbeaten record — ten wins, ten matches played. In addition to the Championship matches, the various clubs played numerous outsido matches and many Wednesday games. There were also three representative matches during the season. The representatives- of tho Wairarapa Cricket Association won by 82 runs, while in the match against a picked team from the Wellington Cricket Club, _^he Hutt Valley representatives won by 14 runs on the first innings. The junior representatives were defeated by 4 wickets by an eleven from the Wellington Junior Cricket Association. The thanks of the Association are tendered to Dr. Newman (patron) for his trophy for the best fielder in the Association, which baa yet to be allotted; Dr. Purdy (President),, trophy for best batting average in Championship matches, won by P. Judd, Western Hutt; Dr. Ross' (Vice-President), trophy for best batting average in representative matches, won by S. Brice, Petone United ; Rev. J. D. Russell (Vice-President), trophy for best bowling average Championship matches, won by S. Brice, Petone United ; and to Messrs. T. W! Cavfcrbill and J. G. A. Castle for donations. The Association is in a very sound financial position. Last season with tho teams ifc had competing the Association was very much hampered fov tho want of good grounds, and in the incoming season, with tho prospect of largely increased membership and competing teams in all clubs, it will be absolutely imperative to obtain additional pitches. The annual meeting of the Karori Cripket Club is called for Thursday evening. .
