LOCAL jIND GENERAL. » The Poll on the proposal of the Seatoun Road Board to raise a loan of £2750 for the purpose of erecting wharves at Seatoun and Karaka Bay was held yesterday. There are 127 ratepayers on the roll, and as twenty of these are away from Wellington the fact that 92 ratepayers recorded their votes shows the interest taken in the proposal. Only two voles were cast against the proposal. Mr. Samuel Robinson, the Returning Offv cor, declared the result to be — For the proposal, 90 votes ; against, 2. The vote was not taken on the question of the third . wharf at Miramar, as Messrs. A. C. Crawford are paying the cost of this, and the Boaifd can erect it without any poll formalities. The Industrial Association will hold its annual dinner in the Industrial Hall, on Saturday evening. It is expected thai the Premier will be present on the occasion. The testimonial which it is proposed to present to Lieut. Adams, who has just retired from the Municipal Fire Brigade after 25 years active service, is to take the shape of a full-size oil painting of the lieutenant in fire brigade uniform. Mr. M'Masters, the well known portrait painter, has been commissioned to do the work. Donations towards the cost have been made by business people and private citizens, and many of the Chinese residents have also subscribed. The Waipawa correspondent of the Hawkes Bay Herald learns from an authentic source that the Government will purchase the Milbourne estate, known better as "The Brow" or Stokes run.
