♦ ~ Tlxe Dunedin Star learns that a resident of that city, well known in the drapery business, has fallen heir to a handsome legacy— running into live figures. Mr. James Macky, first Warden of the Thames goldflelds,- was presented at Paeroa the other day, with n, purse of sovereigns in recognition of the many valuable services rendered by him on the goldfields of the Thames and Ohinemuri. The Auckland Board of Education, at its last meeting, resolved to re-examine the pupil teachers in music. There' are a number of prominent "cracksmen" in Christchurch at the present time, and their numbers are being added to every week. They are evidently (says the Press) attracted by the approaching Jubilee festivities. A young ladies' "Khaki Company" has been lormed at Greymoutli. Forty names of members have been received, and more are expected.
