[BY TELEGRAPH — PRESS "ASSOCUTIOH. { CHRISTCHURCH, 29th May. Harry Mills and A. T. Griffin, two lads, -were brought up for sentence for stealing from a dwelling. The 'former were released on his own recognisance provided he went back to Burnhara. Griffin was liberated on two years' probation. Haihy Augustus Scott, for breaking and entering, was sentenced to a year's imprisonment. James Nicol, for perjury, was fined £50. Daniel Ferguson, for breaking and entering, was sent to gaol for a year. DUNEDIM, 29th May. The hearing of the charge against Alexander Hamilton Eddington, Henry Hughes Eddington, and Robert Burns of having caused the death of Peter Cartridge at Kakanui, near Oamaru, was not concluded to-day. The last witness examined was Dr. Whitton, who said there was not a fracture of the skull and no blood clot on the brain. Death was attributable to hemorrhage from a wound, concussion of the brain, and shock to the nervous system. The wound might have been caused by a stone thrown at the deceased, and there were stones about which might have answered the purpose. He did not think the injury could have been caused by a stumbling fall, but in cross-examination said it the deceased fell when moving rapidly that would make a difference. If he fell on a round beach stone that would cause such a wound, but he found no such stone within the radius examined. A man falling would be likely to strike his nose

and forehead. There was a contusion on deceased's nose and a severe wound on the brow.
