[PRESS ASSOCIATION.] LONDON, 29th May.

The following official communication has been issued by the War Office : — On Monday Lord Roberts marched to Klip River, twenty miles north of Vereeniging, where he crossed the Vaal, and within eighteen miles of Johannesburg. The enemy abandoned their successive positions whenever they were approached. They were just in time to entrain five of their guns as some West Australians dashed into the Klip River station. Lieut. -General French's cavalry and Lieut. -General lan Hamilton's mounted infantry engaged the enemy ten miles to the westward. Firing had been heard from that direction since noon. The farmers near the line of advance are surrendering their arms and horses.
