AN EXHIBITION OF SKETCHES.

*-^ I To-morrow afternoon an exhibition of sketches from the pencils and brushes of local and other artists is to be opened ! in the Academy of Arts. The exhibition, which is being held for the afternoon and evening only, is given under the direction of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts as a means of encouraging students, and has brought together some really capital work, not only from beginners, but from experienced hands also. Messrs. J- M. Nairn and C. H. Worsley have pent in quite a number of sketches, and other contributors include M. E. Richardson, W. H. Carter, J. H. W. Parsons, Charlotte Youmans, H. Fitzherberl, W. Tiller, H. M. L. Atcherlej', E. D. Drake, and W. Reuben Watts, the latter Bending in a number of sketches depicting members of our South Africfn Contingents in love and war. The ladies of the Academy are to \ rovide afternoon tea to-morrow, and m the I evening the Newton Family are to pre- j sent a concert programme, one item of which will be the singing by Mr. John Newton of an original patriotic .song, the words and music of which hays beer, composed by Miss Richmond.
