We regret to record the death of Mr. Hugh S. B. Miller, of the Inspector's branch of the General Post Office. Tho deceased gentleman, who was born in London 36 yeurs ago, entered the British Postal Department after finishing hi;; education, and remained in it until 1883 when he came out to Wellington with his widowed mother by the steamer British King. A fortnight after landing here he accepted an appointment in the Post and Telegraph Department, and retained the position up to the time of his death. His services were highly valued and his death is greatly regretted by the heads of the Department. On Wednesday last he complained of feeling unwell, and was obliged to remain in bad the following day. Med'ca' aid wa<? summoned, and as it was found that ho was suffering from an interim. complication he was removed to a^privaUward in the Hospital with the object o. haviig an operation performed. Hi* condition, however, became so bad that the operation could not take, place, and he died last night. The deceased was marr ed only three months ago. . The funeral is to take place on Thursday morning. In his civil jurisdiction this morning Mr. Haselden, S.M , gave judgment for plaintiffs in the following cases: — South Pacific Loan Co. v. Geo., E., and a. Neill, £22 6s 6d ; E. S. Rainbow v. Robert B. Smith, £2 19s. Judgment summons — Pauli and Co. v. Wm. A. Ellis, £16 17s, order to pay withm one month or undergo 17 days' imprisonment. An enthusiastic meeting was held in the Mount Cook Schoolroom last night at which it was decided to form an Old Boys- 1 Association in conneclrpn with the. school. The following were appointed as the first officers of the new association : — President, Mr. J. H. Hardy ; Vice - Presidents, Messrs. H. Tripe, J. M. Wilson; F. Vaughan ; Secretary, Mr. H. Langdon ; Treasurer, Mr. C. Howard ; Committee, Messrs. Young, Worth, Midlane, Carter, Houchen, Hardy Langdon, Tripe, Wilson, Vaughan, and Howard. A special meeting of the Hairdressers' Union will be held at the Trocadero tomorrow evening.
