HOLIDAY EXCURSION TICKETS, available for return until WEDNESDAY, 30th May, 1900, will be obtainable from any station to any station on tho Wel-lington-Napior-Now Plymouth section (excepting in cases where- tho ordinary fares are less) from TUESDAY, 22nd to THURSDAY, 24th May, 1900. The period for which the tickets are available for return may 'be extended for afc further 14 days on payment of the difference in value between an ordinary single ticket and half tho excursion fare. Persons desiring an extension of time must apply at the station to which the original ticket was issued on or before 30th May. They are available for break of journey at any station at which the train is timed to stop over 25 miles from issuing station. NOTE.— On QUEEN'S BIRTHDAY, 24th May, 1900, Holiday Excursion Tickets from Te Aro, Upper Hutt, and intermediate stations, to Featherston, Groytown, Maetcrton and intermediate stations, and from Maslerton, Greytown, Featherstoii, or intermediate stations to stations south thereof will not be available by Te Aro to Napier or Napier to Te Aro mail trains. Tho Te Aro to Napier mail trains will not stop at Flag Stations between Lower Hutt and Masterton except to take up passengers for north of Masterton. The Napier to To Aro mail train will not stop at Flag Stations South of Masterton. A Special Train, stopping at all stations, will leave Te Aro for Masterton at 8.0 a.m., and Wellington at 8.15 a.m., and a return train will leave Ma&terton at 5.20 p.m. and Featherston at 6.40 v.m. ■ DAY EXCURSION TICKETS, available- for return on day of issue only, will (except whero ordinary fares are less) be obtainable on 24th May as under: — From To Aro, Wellington, or Kaiwarra to Petone or Lower Hutt, first class Is 6d, second claEs Is, or vice versa. From Te Aro, Belmont, or intermediate stations to Belmont, Upper Hult, or intermediate stations, first class 2s 6d, second class Is 6J, or vice versa. T> ESIDENTS of Petone and Lower Hult JLV aro requested to note that gas will bo available tor the supply of private premises on and after SiITLTRDAjf, the 19th inst. The Council respectfully solicits the custom of all householders, hotel proprietors, and owners of public halls in the district. DON'T FORGET THAT THE PROFITS BELONG TO THE PEOPLE. The price of gas for ordinary lighting purposes ha 3 been fixed at NII\E SHILLINGS PER THOUSAND CUBIC FJiiST NETT, and for cooking, gas fires, engines, and similar purposes fciEVEN AND SIXPENCE Plilt THOUSAND CUBIC FEET NETT. THERE IS EVERY PROSPECT OF THE ABOVE CHARGES BEING REDUCED CONSIDERABLY if the worfca are supported as the Council hopes and believes they will be. With respect to the charges for gas the Council desires it to be made known that the PETONE BOROUGH WORKS are the FIRST IN NEW ZEALAND TO COMMENCE SUPPLY OF GAS AT THE RATES MENTIONED, and confidence is felt that the Council's venture will bo rewarded by a full measure of support. Services will bo laid on, and the inlet of meter connected by the Council free of charge where the meter is situated not more than 25 feet from the Etreet line. Care has been taken to equip the works with the most modern plant procurable. The purifying plant especially is ample, and intending consumers may rely on getting gas entirely free from impurities. GASFITTINGS. It has been brought under the notice of the Council that many residents would prefer the Council should undertake tho work of fitting up private premises itself. The Council has therefore decided in order to meet the evident wish of a large number of ratepayers to carry cat the work right through to the burner at charges and on terms to meet tho convenience of ratepayers. In cases where the consumer desires the work performed by outside gasfitters, the Council's Engineer will give every assistance in the direction of advice and free supervision of the work. Sample fittinge of all descriptions may be inspected at the office of the Council on and after Wednesday, the 16th inst. The Engineer will supply full information and estimates on application.
