The Premier sails for the South this evening to pay a visit to the Hon. John M'Kenzie before leaving for the Islands. Mr. Seddon returns to Wellington on Wednesday, and will then pioceed in the Tutanckai to Cook Island. He will be absent about a month. A new shed for the fumigation of mails is being erected on Somes Island. The present fumigation house is too small for the expeditious treatment of heavy mails, and more convenient premises ought to have been erected at the time it was decided to impose quarantine restrictions upon .vessels from, infected ports. The shed now in course of erection will enable Australian mails for the whole of the colony to be fumigated in less than 24 hours. The Waikare's mail comprised 268 bags. A short course of popuTar lectures for the winter months has been ai ranged in connection with the Technical School. The first of these will be given by Misa Ivty, late of the London School of Cookery, on Friday, the 251h instant, in the liirge hall of the Technical School, Mer-cer-sheet.
