MASTERTON A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

' ANNUAL SHOW. Officers of the Association: President, Mr. D. J. Cameron. VicePresident, Mr. iD. Guild. Treasurer, Mr. E. E. Chamberlain. Secretary, Mr. William Lowes (assisted by Messrs. F. C." Lewis and W. Sellars). General Committee, Messrs. W. H. Beetham, A. W. Cave, T. E. Chamberlain, J. D. Cruickshank, C. E. Daniell, J. Ewart, R. Gray, John Harvey, J. Hessey, P. Hill, R. Johnston,, F. 0. Lewis, F. Moore, James M'Gregor, W. M'Kenzie, J. M'Rae, William Perry, Bland Raynor, J. Strang, Jas. Stuckey, Geo. Watson, W. D. Watson, W. J. Welch, H. G. Williams. Protest Committee, President, Vice-President, Messrs. J. Hessey, J. M'Gregor, J. Strang, J. D. Cruickshank, Walter Perry, J. Stuckey, Jno. Macßae. The *Masterton A. and P. Association was not so fortunate after all with regard to the weather for yesterday's show, for as the day progressed the blue sky became obscured by threatening clouds. Luckily there was only a very slight sprinkling of rain, and the attendance was larger than last year, over 3000 being present at 3 o'clock, with still more coming in despite the threatening aspect. An hour or so later, however, it rained heavily. Taken all round the show was about up to the standard of previous exhibitions. The cattle were iin quality a splendid lot, and would have been a credit to any show. Two Masterton breeders, Messrs. J. Stuckey and Williams and Beetham, were the only exhibitors in pure-bred Herefords, and m the polled Angus class there was but one exhibit — 'that of Mr. E. E. Chamberlain. There was only one exhibit in Ayrshires — Mr. A. C. Elkins. Messrs. Williams and Beetham and Mr. W. C. Buchanan were the principal exhibitors of fat cattle and the chief prize-takers. They also carried off the special prizes for best fat heifer and best fat bullock in the yard. Sheep, though fewer in number than last year, were better in quality. There was keen competition in the champion ram contest, which was won by Rayner Bros., the silver medal for champion ewe falling to Perry Bros. Two classes — Cotswolds and Border Leicesters — which have been but poorly represented at previous shows were yesterday not represented at all. Messrs. J. Rayner and Son were the only competitors in Hampshire Downs, and Mr. J. M'Gregor in Romneys (farmers' class). As mentioned in our telegraphic summary last night, the horses were a prominent feature, both in quantity and 'quality. In thoroughbreds, in which class the entries showed a falling-off, Mr. H. W. Clay's Au Revoir was awarded the championship and gold medal. Mr. J. Maxwell's Inzevarwon the special prize, gold medal, and . championship for draught stallion, and Mr. R. Johnston's Flora the gold medal for mare in. foal. There was keen competition in the produce events, some splendid bottled fruit being shown. Miss Stuckey and Mrs. Cameron having some particularly fine exhibits. Energetic officials as usual were a big factor in making the show a success, and a great amount of work devolved upon the Secretary, Mr. Wm, Lowes, and his assistants, Messrs. W. Sellars and F. C. Lewis, who were quite equal to the occasion. The judges, too, are to be commended on the celerity with which they performed their arduous duties, all the judging, except in some of the horse classes, being completed before luncheon. The ' Masterton Municipal Brass Band played selections during the afternoon, and the catering arrangements were satisfactorily attended to by Mr. A. L. White, of Carterton.
