ENTERTAINMENTS.

" New Babylon " drew another large audience to the Opera House last night. The final presentation of this fino speptacular melodrama was received with with much enthusiasm. This evening Mr. Holt will stage Messrs. G. R. Sims and Arthur Shirley's "In London Town," a drama not previously played in this city. The chief incidents in the piece deal with the trials of the daughter of a man who had suffered for the sins of a fellow clerk, but who, in another coun- ' try, had amassed a vast sum of money. The daughter (Alice) flies frtim her home to escape (the machinations of one villain, only to fall into the toils of another. The plot is full of interest and excitement, and, of course, matures satisfactorily. "In London Town-" hdlfe the reputation of being a smartly-written, wellconstructed and realistic drama, which affords scope for the delineation of cha- ' racters that are interesting and omu:ing. The piece will run for a foy/ nights only, and will be succeeded by "The War of Wealth." Tho heavy nor'-wester which raged over the city all day yesterday made it utterly impossible for the Valdares lo put up their tent, so the performance was abandoned. Hardly had this decision been arrived at than the weather took a turn for the better, and the night fell calm and clear. However, it was then too late to alter arrangements, and the company will introduce itself to the Wellington public to-night. A programme as diverting as it is clever is promised.
