ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES FATAL TRAP ACCIDENT.
[BY TELKGRAI'H — l>RbS3 ASSOCIATION.! AIAKTON, This Day." A bad smash-up occuired on the Wangoehu side oi mo lurakma Hill at 8 o'clock last evening. A spring trap — i:onta,in.ing Air. Monin, a railway ganger ; his muiTicd daughter, Mrs. Tyson, of Napier ; her two younger sisters (girls of 15 and 12) ; two younger children ; und Mrs. Ronald Cameron, of Fordell— was coming up the hill when the horse took fright at an approaching vehicle's lights and swerved round. The trap was backed over a steep incline, turninjr over in its descent. Assistance was quickly procured from Wangaehu and Turakina, and those injured were conveyed to their homes at the latter place. Young Miss Morau, 15 years of age, had evidently received serious injuries. Though conscious she was suffering severe pain, and she succumbed to her injuries at midnight before medical assistance from Marton arrived, though such aid would have been of no ayail. None of the others were seriously injured, although Mrs. Tyson got a very severe shaking. Major Ross, Coroner, will hold an inquest this afternoon. GREYTOWN NORTH, This Day. A man named John Mitchell was thrown from his horse at Morrison's Bush on Saturday, fracturing his skull. He was taken to the Grevijown Hospital, where he lies in a critical condition. DUNEDIN, This. Day. James M'Kenzje M'lntosh, a Customhouse officer, was found dead in the summer house in his garden this morning. Heart disease is supposed to have caused his death. The medical evidence at the Coroner's enquiry held on Saturday afternoon into the circumstances attending the death of the lad William Gibson, who was run over by a truck on the railway wharf, showed that death was due to internal bleeding, as a result of the injuries received. The jury returned a verdict of death by misadventure, adding as a rider: — "That the Government Railway, Harbour Board, and the Union Company should jointly provide a man to warn boys off, the wharf and see that every precaution is used to carry on the trafho without accident as long as any work is going on." %
