PRIMITIVE METHODIST CONFERENCE.
[BY TELEGRAPH — PREB9 ASSOCIATION.] STRATFORI), 12th January. The Primitive Methodist Conference was opened to-day by the Rev. P. Joues, the retiring President. The election of officers was proceeded with as follows : — President, Rev. J. Cocker ; Vice-President, Mr. Dohb-« ; Secretary, Rev. T. H. Lyon; Assistant-Secretarieß, Rev?. Barnett and Drake ; Reporters. Revs. J. B. Merrett and G. P. Hunt ; Renders. Revs. J. Guy and Mr. C. M. Luke; Letter Writers, Rev. Mr. Raine and Mr. G. J. Boothroyd ; Connexional Reporter, Rev. Mr. Woodward ; Timekeeper, Mr. Cooper ; Auditors, Rev. W. Laycock and Mr. J. C. Thompsou ; Precentor, Rev. S. Bennett.
A trooper of the Natal Mounted Police says of their scouting : "It was weary work ; often thirty hours in the saddle, constantly wet, until riding became a torture." He adds that the Free Staters they had taken prisoners swore that if they ever get loose they would shoot President Steyn, and he thinks they mean it. Some of the soldiers wounded by the Mauser bullets ran 600 yards before loss of blood felled them.
