The next session of the Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science will be held at Hobart next year, and the following one at Dunedin in 1904. TICK QUARANTINE. BRISBANE. 11th January. The Tick Conference in response to representations from the southern colonies which threatened a stoppage of the border cattle traffic, has agreed to the extension of a stricter enforcement of the tick quarantine lines. FROM CAIRO TO KHARTOUM BY RAIL. (Received January 12, 9.10 a.m.) CAIRO, 11 tli Jauuary. Railway communication with the Soudan is rapidly being pushed forward. A train from Cairo has arrived at Khartoum. THE QUEEN CHRISTINA WRECK. 0 BRISBANE, This Day. The steamer which was despatched to the wreck of the Queen Christina, which was stranded just before Christmas on the Lihou Reef, 230 miles beyond the Great Barrier Reef, had to return owing to an accident to her chronometer. This is seriously delayiug the sending of relief, but no fear is entertained of any harm befalling those on board. THE PLAGUE AT NOUMEA. « [PRESS ASSOCIATION.] NOUMEA, 11th Jauuary. Another case of plague has been reported, the patient being a European. Two Kanakas have died iv quarantine.
