THE BURNING STATE FOREST.
* [by telegbaph— pkess association.! AUCKLAND, 3rd January. The Puhipuhi State forest now on fire consists mainly of kauri trees, with a few totaras, and covers an area of 17,640 aorea. In all there is about 28,500,000 ft of kauri in the forest. The forest is about fifteen miles north of Whaugarei. A block of 11,700 acres was to have been sold on Friday.
