M. Tolhurst, C. H. Izard, W. Murdoch, and the Hon. F. H. Fraser. Tenders for the balance of the Fire Brigade Loan (£3000), of which six had been received, were sent on to tho Fiuanco Sub-Committee for opening. One tender for road-metal was sent on to the Road Metal Committee, which was given power to act. Auctioneer's licenses were grunted to Messrs. T. G. A request from tho Cricket Association to be permitted to take up a collection on tho Basin Reserve on Christmas Day was refused. The opinion of the majority ot the Councillors was that tho Basin should bo wholly free to the people on Christmas Day. The Fire Brigades Committee reported that it had s>ervod notices of the termination of their engagements upon the auxiliary members of the brigade. All but three of them had applied for re-m-stuternent, and had been accepted. The Committee recommended that the Bylaws Committee be requested to frame a bylaw dealing with the storage of carbide of calcium, and to reconsider the matter of the storage of packing cases. Tenders for the erection ot tho new central station were to be received on the 13th January, and tho Committee asked for power to deal with them. The report was adopted. The North Island Brass Bands' Association wrote asking pel-mission to use tho Basin Reserve on 22nd January for the purpose of holding a military tattoo as a means of raising contributions towards the Transvaal relief funds. It was thought that the manoeuvres would injure the cricket ground, and the request was not granted. Accounts amounting to £1536 were passed for payment.
