Mr. Hogg said in the course of his speech that he believed the Government would still further assist the small settlers by relieving them of taxation and placing it ou the broad shoulders well able to bear it — on some of tbe gentlemen who had offered the bribe of the freehold. Mr. Hornsby, M.H.R., referred to the great evil of the brewing monopoly in New Zealand, which he said was making slaves of the licensed victuallers.
