ADVANCE TO SPTTFONTEIN. REPORTED ATTACK ON THE BOER POSITION. DURBAN, 10th December. Reports have been received here from Pietoria via Delagoa Bay stating that the British attack on Commandant Cronje's troops around bpytfontein — ten miles north of Modder River, where the Boers have taken up a strong position — was commenced on Saturday, when the enemy were engaged at Sholtz Nek, a saddle on the low hills to the east of the railway line. It is belived that in accordance with pre-arranged plans a sortie was simultanaoußly made from Kimberley under Colonel Kekewich (of the First Battalion of the North Lancashire Regiment), who has been in command of the garrison during the siege.
