AC CIDENTS A ND FA TALITIES
FATAL GUN ACCIDENT AT JUDGEFORD. Yet another fatality due to the careless handling of firearms by youths is reported. The sad occurrence happened near Judgeford yesterday morning, v and the victim was a 16-year-old lad named Frank Robertson, "whose father is a baker at Pahautanui. At half-past 10 young Robertson, armed with an old muzzle-loader, and accompanied by a friend, James Gardner, went out shooting. About half-an-hour later, while going down a steep hill, Robertson began to poke some scrub with the butt end of the gun, in search of sport, when the weapon suddenly went off and blew off the top of his skull above the right eye. Death must have been instantaneous. Subsequently the body of the unfortunate lad was taken to Pahautanui, where the Coroner (Mr. Ashcroft) went out this afternoon to hold an inquest at 4 o'clock.
