PROGRESS OF THE METHUEN COLUMN.

BOER RE-OCCUPATION OF BELMONT. • CAPETOWN, 23rd November. Lieut. -General Lord iuethuen, whose column halted a day or two ago at Orange River for reinforcement by a Naval Brigade, reached Witteputs, eleven miles north of the- river, on Tuesday. The troops are now advancing on Belmont—ten miles north of Witteputs — which, the Boers have re-occupied with a strong force. [The re-occupation of Belmont by the Boers tends to confirm our suggestion of a day or two ago that Colonel Gough'd force, which engaged the ljoers at that place a fortnight ago — the occasion of Lieut. -Col. Keith-Falconer's death — has fallen back and been absorbed in Lord Methuen's column.]
