[by telegraph— own correspondent.] MASTERTON, 23rd November. The Rev. L. M. Isitt addressed a very large audience in the Masterton Town Hail last night. At the conclusion of the address, ho moved "That, in the opinion of this meeting, it is to the commercial, mental, and moral welfare of the community to vote no license." This was carried. The meeting was an enthusiastic one, the chair being occupied by Mr. E. E. Meredith. Mr. D. J Cameron has been elected chairman of the Wairarapa North County Council. CARTERTON, 23rd November. Forty tous of oaten chaff, the property of Mr. Abraham Oliver, of Parkvale, were destroyed by fire this morning. There was no insurance. At a meeting of the Wairarapa South County Council held yesterday, Councillor C. Elga s r was elected chairman. The following appointments were made: — To represent the Council on the Charitable Aid Board, Councillor Booth ; on the Masterton Hospital, Councillors Elgar, Bunny, and Fisher. The chairman was deputed to vote at the election of Masterton Hospital Trustees; on the Greytown Hospital Board, Councillor Anderson ; on the Wellington Benevolent Trust, Mr. W. A. Fitzberbert. CARTERTON, This Day. At a public meeting held yesterday a committeia was appointed to take the steps necessary to form an irrigation district in order to water the Taratahi Plains. As the result of yesterday's bowling matches, Fisher, Moncreiff, jun.,, Underbill, and Ramsay hold the Johnston Feathers; and Bish, Gaulton, Jtagle, Downard hold the Bish Buckles. MASTERTON, This Day. A young man named R. Miller has been committed for trial on. a charge of having forged and utteired a cheque for £5. PAHIATUA, This Day. A five-roomed house belonging to Mr. Robert PaTkor, at the Village Settlement, was destroyed by fire last night. The cause of the outbreak is unknown. [BY TELEGRAPH — I'RKSS ASSOCIATION.] MASTERTON, This Day. Laura Ross, licensee of the Occidental Hotel, was to-day fined 20s, and 7s costs for permitting a barmaid to be in the bar after 11 o'clock. It appears that on Saturday last about 20 cyclists, from Wellington, rode to Masterton, the majority staying at Mrs. Ross's hotel. The visitors did not arrive till between 10 and 11 o'clock, and while waiting for supper 1o be prepared some of them sat down in the private bar. The police entered a few minutes after 11 and found matters as stated. No other persons were in the house, and the other bars were closed, 'me offence was admitted by the licensee's solicitor. The Magistrate remarked that he was satisfied that it was nob a flagrant breach of the Act.
