«• The selection of a course for the rowing championship regatta next year will be settled at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rowing Association, which is to be held in Wellington towards the end of the present mouth. The decision of the Association will be awaited with great interest by rowing men throughout the colony. The Levin people are anxious that the regatta should be held on the Horowhenua Lake, on which it is said a really first-class course can be laid out. The people of Wanganui and Picton are equally anxious that the races should come off in the vicinity of their towns. It is probable that if Wanganui is chosen at least two of the Auckland clubs will send down crews. An agitation has been got up by the Canterbury clubs for the removal of the headquarters of the Association to that city. The majority of the clubs, however, favour the retention of Wellington as the headquarters. The election of a successor to Mr. W. C. Marter as hon. secretary to the Association is likely to be very spirited. There are two candidates— viz., Mr. E. M. Boulton (ex-captain of the Canterbury Rowing Club) and Mr. A. G. Johnson, who was one of the founders of the Wellington Rowing Club, and who was for several years its leading executive officer. Both are in every way qualified for the office. The Wellington Rowing Club got "off another heat of the Club Fours last night, when J. M'Kenzio (stroke), W. Duff (3), W. B. Cook (2), T. J. Watkins (bow), and C. M'Keegan (cox) beat T. Spencer (stroke), F. Christie (3), J. Hancox (2), IC. Stevens (bow), and S. Hutchen (cox) by six feet. J. M'Kenzie will row H. Scotti and the winner of that heat will row W. J. Spencer for the final.
