BENJAMIN GUM— HOW IT IS OBTAINED. The Benjamin Gum tree is indigonous to 3hun and Sumatra. The gum is obtained by making oblique ineisious in the stem of tne treo, which usually attains a diameter of two fret. The liquid which exudes soon hardens by oxposuro to the kuu and air, and is known as Benzoin or Benjamin Gum. Benzoin has very valuable medicinal properties and has been in use since the fourteenth century tw a remedy for inflammation of tho lungs and bronchial tubes.
