Messrs. Baunatyu© & Co, local agents, are ad* vised,, that the Cornpauy is to despatch a steamer from London direct to New Zealand with the cargo of the steamer Stay of New Zealdnfl, which had to put back to London a few days ago in a damaged condition, the result; of 9. collision with the steamer Pontas, off Beaohy Head, during foggy weather. The firm have intimation tliafc the steamer Ardandearg sailed from New York for New Zealand ports on 12th inst., with a full oargo ; also, that the Liamore is to leave New York on 25th May, and the new steamer Towoana about 25th June. These vessels wiU come to New Zealand by way of Australia. The Star of "Victoria was to sail from London for Sydney, Auckland, Giebome, Napier, and Wellington about the 15th inst. The Star of England, which, has 300 tone cargo for.this port, is due in Wellwg* ton about the beginning oE May. Captain Holm, of the barque Q. M. Tucker, who went to Australia some weeks ago to purchase the barque Veritas on behalf of, the Westport Coal Co .for c"o(il hulk purposes in Auckland, returned to Wellington by the Flora this morning. Captaiu, Holm brought the Veritas irom Sydney to Auckland. She was purchased for about *1050, and another £1200 or JBISOO will be required to be expended in dismantling and converting her into a lnilk, for which she is splendidly adapted. Captain Holm will rejoin the G. M. Tucker, which, will be ready to sail for Kaipora in, a few days to load for Sydney. There is coming forward by the Tfikomaru, due from London on Thursday .evening, 1900 tons cargo for Wellington, 1000 tons for Lyttleltoii, 100 toy Auckland, and 300 for transhipment. About 200 tone were landed at Houart. While in Nelson the Wairoa was placed on the hard, and the copper partially scrubbed and cleaned. The Pareora left Greymouth this morning with a cargo of coal for the steamer Kaikoura. In 1890 the ship Lord Eipon sailed from Sydfaey for Europe via Cape Horn, and when passing the most; easterly point of the Falkland Islands, on 18th June, 1596, the captain threw over a bottle containing one of the New South Wales Government Astronomer's current papers. The ship was in lat. 51.50deg. south, long. 54.23deg. west, when the bottle began it long journey, and ihe next heard of it is that it was picked up on shore near the southern point of Cape York Peninsula on about 18th March, 1899, having thus been two years and nine months, almost exactly 1000 days? on the long journey of 9560 miles. It made easterly at the rate oC 91 miles per day.
