AN INFLUX OF MINERS. TO THE EDITOR.

Sir — When our Labour Government' passed the Arbitration and Conciliation Act strikes were to be no more, our wage? were to be all right, everything was to be lovely, yet last week, according to your report, some 20 or 3Q " blacklegs " passed through Wellington bound for Reefton to work for the German syndicate. Is our Trades and Labour Council "afraid to speak about it lest they should lose some of their pickings, or are they bought over in some other way? They were quick enough in '91 to hold the "blackleg ' up to scorn and obloquy ; how is it that the '99 gentleman gets off altogether? Perhaps some of the members of the Council will tell us whether they have some sharoF in the Ziman Syndicate, or are directors, or now this" trouble arose and all about it. Thanking you in anticipation. — I am, etc., A Tramp. Wellington, 31st January, 1899.
