Among the passengers who arrived at the Bluff from Melbourne to-day was Major- General Holled Smith, the Victorian Commandant. ivarl Kluglein was to-day committed for trial on two charges of indecent assault on girls. CHRISTCHURCn. THIS DAY. At a meeting to-day of the representatives of the local bodies the half-holiday for the Christchurch district for the ensuing year was fixed for Thursday, as before. A proposal to recommend the Government to amend the Act in the direction of giving the local bodies of seaside resorts power to appoint their own half-holiday was lost.
