MISHAP TO THE AORERE.

Just as the engines of the Aorere were stopped ilongside the Patea wharf on Sunday morainff the after crank camo ia two, though no flaw had previously been detected in it. Temporary repairs were executed tmfficient for the vessel to come to Wellington ■with safety. On her arrival sit tbis port a new crank will be manufactured. Tho local agents have been adviued that she was to leave Patea at noon to-diiy. The local office of the Union Co is advised that the Talune left Sydney at 8.30 pm on Saturday with 170 tons caTgo for this port and 590 tons for Sontb. She is due late to-morrow evening or early Thursday morning-, and snila on the latter date for Melbourne via southern ports. At 7 this morning the Tyser Co's ohartered steamer Tolosa, from New York. Australia, and Auckland, put in an appearance. She has 960 tons cargo to discharge, and will sail at noon on Thursday for Lyttelton, Port Chalmers, and Blutf. Mr Richards, formerly chief offloer of the Brunner, is acting as the Union Co's wharf-labour foreman at Greymouth during Mr Maspn's absence in Australia. '' The auxiliary schooner Huia has just completed a record trip from Kaipar to Lyttelton and back, viz, 11 days 22 hours. Since 6th February last she has made 11 round trips. Owing to last night's stormy weather several of the small coastal steamers remained in port. The Moa made a start for FoxLon, but on getting as far as Ohau Bay Captain Jarman found he was unable to make satisfactory progress against a howling NW gale and heavy sea and came back to port. The captains of the Rotorua and Ohau report a fierce gale and big sea in the Strait, so it is unlikely that any of the smaller steamers will get ont today unless the weather greatly moderates. Messrs Hoolc and King, third engineers of tbe Ovalau and Rotolti, have exebauged vessels. I Captain Bernech, of the Te Anau, reports a fullrigged, deeply-laden ship, with white-painted ports, in Falliser Bay at 5 o'clock tbis morning; also a full-rigged ship in the Strait. Captain Spence, of the Botoraa, also reports a full-rigged ship under topsails 15 or 20 miles from the Heads. The ships MftlvilJe Island, from Eio via Otago Heads, the Angerona, from Adelaide, and the Hinemoa, from Algoa Bay via Otago Heads, are all due here. It may be that the ship seen in Palliser Bay is the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Co's Westland, Captain Kelly, now 87 days from Liverpool to Wellington. The local agents are Messrs Johnston and Co, and her cargo comprises 1335 tons for this post and a balftßC«j!or©Maedia.
