In connection with the shooting of a British resident in the Transvaal by the police, a witness in the case Btates that the deceased (Mr. Edgar) twice struck the constable with an iron bar before he was shot. [In the original advice 6n the subject the police were stated to have entered Mr. Edgar's house and shot him dead. The man who fired the shot was tried for murder, but kt the trial the charge was reduced to oulpable homicide, and he was apparently acquitted. Subsequently, on account of the agitation raised by Mr. Conyngham Greene, British Agent in the Transvaal, the constable was re-arrested, and he is now being tried
