ROMAN CATHOLIC WOMEN AND TEMPERANCE.

While Roman Catholicism as a system retains its characteristic features in all lands, true to its motto, semper eadem, its social development in different lands is of varied hue. One of the notable features of the National Convention of the W.W.C.T. Union at St. Louis, Missouri, a few weeks ago was the appearance and address of Mrs. Lake, the lady President of the Catholic Women's Temperance Union a cultured, eloquent Irish lady of that city. That a Roman Catholic lady should be found in such a gathering at all, in such a capacity and exhibiting such a spirit, is a remarkable sign of the times. — Indian Witness.
