THE BRASS BANDS CONTEST.

WELLINGTON GARRISON AGAIN WINS THE CHAMPIONSHIP. IT WINS THE BESSON SHIELD OUTRIGHT. [BY TELEQRArH — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Dunedin, 29th December. The hand contest was brought to a close this evening. The bands played the second test piece "Falstaff," finishing playing about 10, but it was 11 o'clock before the judge, Mr. J. Otto Schwartz, gave his decision. He announced that the Wellington Garrison Band had gained first prize, that the Kaikorai and North-East Valley Bands had tied for second place, the" South Canterbury Band being fourth. The points gained were as follows :—

The Wellipgton band having been first on the two previous occasions, secures the Besson Presentation Shield as its own property. Tuo Quartet Contest was won by the Dunedin Engineers, with the Kaikorai second. B-flat Cornet.— G. Buckley, Wellington, 1 ; E. Kerr, Kaikorai, 2. E-flat Soprano.— M'Glashan, Kaikorai, 1 ; J. Scott, South Canterbury, 2. Tenor Horn.— J. M'Kersey, Dunedin Navals, 1; J. Boyd, Dunedin Engineers, and H. Boyd, Kaikorai, tie for second place. Baritone. — C. Forrest, Wellington, 1 ; T. Bartlett, Invercargill, 2. Euphonium. — D. Boyd, Dnnedin Engineers, 1 ; A. Donaldson, Wellington, 2. Trombone. — R. Pettit, Kaikorai, 1 ; D. Boyd, Dunedin Engineers, 2. E-flat Bombardon.— F. Huggins, NorthEast Valley, 1 ; A. Miller, Kaikorai, 2. Double B-flat— G. Croxford, Dunedin Engineers, 1 ; C. Davie, Kaikorai, 2.
