CABLE NEWS. [BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.-COPYRIGHT.] THE GATTON MURDER.

4 HOW THE INVESTIGATORS ARE HAMPERED. THE POLICE THEORY OF THE CRIME. Lpeess association.] Brisbane, 29th Deceinoer. The Gatton district, 60 miles from this city, is in a state of great ferment over the dreadful crime committed there in the early part of this week, in which a young man named Michael Murphy and his two sisters were waylaid and murdered and the women also outraged. The work of the black trackers is hampered by the fact that the wind has obliterated the footprints on the dusty roads, and by the multiplicity oil traoks made by people visiting the scene. The armed men who were seen in the vicinity of the place of the tragedy on the night when it occurred are now believed to have been a party of sportsmen. The police theory is that four or five men were engaged in the crime and bailed the party up, afterwards tying their hands behind their backs. The indications show that at least three men were concerned in the outrage upon the women. The Government has sent a message of condolence to the relatives of the victims.
