4 GENERAL KITCHENER SECURES HIMSELF AT PASHODA. PROGRESS OF THE SOUTHERN BRITISH EXPEDITION. [PEESS ASSOCIATION.] Cairo. 27th September. General Kitchener has secured the right bank of the White Nile — the main branch of the rivpr, which leads from Khartoum to Fa^hoda', and thence on iuto Central Africa — and barred it north and south of Fashoda. It is reported that Major Macdonald's expedition from Uganda has reached Lado — on the banks of the Nile, in the north-east corner of the Congo State. The Khedive is having sent to Cairo and Massovvah 250 Abyssinians who were released at Otndurnian after the flight of the Dervishes. Paris, 27th September. Itisreported that the Government sustains Captain Marohand's claims to Fashoda, and it also claims Bahr-el-Ghazal, the great province of Central Africa, lyinej to the east of French Congo and the north of the eastern part of the Congo State, with the Nile as its eastern boundary. A PEERAGE FOR THE SIRDAR. London, 27th September. General Kitchener, Sirdar of the Egyptian army, has been created a Peer. A GRISLY EXHIBIT. Cairo, 27th September. The skull of the Mahdi, which was recovered from the tomb when it was blown up by the late General Gordon's nephew, has been forwarded to the London College of Surgeons. • ______ FRANCE'S WEAKNESS AT FASHODA (Received September 28, 9.25 a.m.) Paris. 27th September. It is reported that the complications of France are being discussed by the Powers forming the Triple Alliance. Captain Marchand has eight officers and 21 Senegalese troops at Fa9hoda.
