RAILWAY RETURNS.

The return of railway receipts and expenditure for the four weeks ending 20th August shows the former to have been £92,840 J4s and the latter £73,253 14s lid. In the corresponding period of the previous year the figures were £87,538 2s 5d and £64,960 3s 7d respectively. GO'73; GreymouthBrunner, 6854, 5752 ; Greymouth-Hoki-tika, 68-43, 5718 ; Westport, 37 p O6, 4065; Nelson, ISQ-SO^QrsgjPicton, 113-50, 10976 • grand total, 6773, 65*48. The receipts on the Wellington-Napier-New Plymouth Bection amounted to £21,297 4s 7d, against £19,889 12s lid in the corresponding period last year, the number of passengers carried being 74,392, as against 69,962.
