THE COLONIES AND THE NAVAL RESERVE.
♦ [PEESS ASSOCIATION.] London, 28th July. Lords Brassey and Loch and the Hon. W. A. Mulock (Postmaster-General of Canada) interviewed ]VJr. Goschen (First Lord of the Admiralty) relative to the Admiralty enrolling colonial seamen as a reserve for the navy, and urged that Avelldrilled forces in Australia were capable of serving the navy if the conditions of the service were slightly altered. Mr. Mulock said that the 75,000 fishermen in Canada would provide excellent material for reserve. Mr. Goschen acknowledged the sympathy of the colonies, but said there were great difficulties surrounding the training of the colonists, especially iv regard to six months' training aboard warships.
