p Thirty members of the starboard watch of the Petone Navals paraded last evening at the Drillshed, under Lieut.-Com. Kirk and Lieut. Smithie, and were instructed in submarine mining work by Sergt.-Major Parrell and Instructors Gauntlett and Olive, the gunneiy detachment, under Lieut. Fanning drilling at Ngahauranga. The weekly parade of the Institute Cadets was held last night, under Captain Wallace and Lieut. FitzGerald. Morris tube shooting will take place on Saturday evening, at 6.45 sharp. An examination of the non-commissioned officers of the D Battery was held last night. The results will not be announced until Tuesday next. It is notified that the following appointments of acting non-commissioned officers in the Civil Service Corps bavo been made :—: — Sonior-Sergoant H. Hawthorn (the Treasury), Sergeants, W. Doyle (Land and Income), A. V. Lechnor (Telegraph), G. N. Goldie (Valuation) ;. Corporals', G. Haliday (Laud and Income), M. C. Smith and Jl'.J I . M. Fisher (District Survey), W. J. Jamieson (Railways). Lieut.-Ceilonel Newall is inspecting the Hawkes Bay Vounteers this week. , The Kelburne Rifles, under Caplain Davis, Lieuts. M'Donald and Henderson, paraded at the Drillshed last night, with the capilal muster of 57 of all rank*. The company was inspected by Major Collins, on neba'lf of the Government, alter which the o'dicers put the men through tbe evolutions of company drill. Two new members were elected, and a considerable amount of business in connection with the coining " social " was transacted.
