A rowdy Federation meeting was held in the North Melbourne Town Hall on Saturday night. Mr. Maloney, M.L.A., and Mr. Alfred Deakin were the chief speakers. Mr. Maloney hotly resented Mr. Deakin's accusation that he had packed the meeting with anti- Federalists. He dared Mr. Deakin to meet him outside and dashed the contents of a glass of water in Deakin's face. A general m6lee followed, sticks and umbrellKs being freely used. The police eventually cleared the building.
