RETURN OF THE GOVERNOR.

His Excellency the Governor and Captain Alexander returned from Lyttelton to Wellington this afternoon by the Penguin after an extensive tour through the South Island. The party were received by the Right Hon. the Premier. It is understood that the chief purpose of Lord Ranfurly's return is to meet his Advisers in Council and consider the capital sentences passed in the Philpott and Clements murder cases. His Excellency will return to Dunedin by the Rotomahana, which leaves port at 5 o'clock to-morrow.
