KAR ORI BORO UGH CO UN CIL.
Karori Borough Council held its monthly meeting on Tuesday evening. Present — The Mayor (Mr. R. C. Bulkley), Councillors Cook, Dasent, Hill, Lancaster, Platt, and Spiers. Mr. Ward, engineer to the borough, wrote stating that the contract for the Aorangi-Kaupapa portion of the new road had been signed. He also forwarded plans of the old Karori-road, and the proposed widening of the deviation. Councillor Lancaster moved that the deviation be widened on the upper side. Councillor Dasent moved as an amendment that it he widened as shown on plan. The amendment was carried. Mr. F. Long wrote asking for a refund of pound fees, owing to the fence being down. The Town Clerk was authorised to reply that the Council was not liable. It" was resolved that the system of charitable aid in the borough be altered, and that tenders be called for the supply of rations. Messrs. Bell and Thomas were granted permission to take metal from the AorangiKaupapa road for their contract, subject to the approval of the Public Works Committee as to the quality of the metal. Councillor Platt said he wished to continue the street fronting his residence to join the new road on Governor's Farm. The present road was half a chain wide, which he wished to continue. The question of legality as to width was referred to the Solicitor. The Town Clerk was instructed to furnish the Public Works Committee with a list of occupiers who had not complied with the notices to cut down the furze, so that a man could be put on to do so at their cost. Tendeis were ordered to be invited for carting for the next twelve months. The following accounts were passed for payment : — General account, £69 10s ; loan account, £140.
