« FORTIFICATION OF AN AMERICAN NAVAL BASE. MINES LAID AT SANDY HOOK. [PEESS ASSOCIATION.] New Youk, 15ili March. The United States Government has decided to fortify the Tortugas Islets, at the entrance of the Gulf of Mexico, as a naval base. Mines have beeu laid at Sandy Hook, the entrance to the bay at New York. (Received March 17, 10 a.m.) London, 16th March. "Reports from Madrid state that public feeling in that city is in favour of peace.
