The Chief Justice heard argument to-day on an appeal by Keita Ruta and others against the decision of the Native Land Court awarding the interest of Heni Mokai in certain blocks in Hawkes Bay to Matiu Meke, the deviser under the will. His Honour reserved his decision. Mr. Morison was for Keilu Ruta and auother, and opposed the application for succession, and Mr. Sainsbury for Matiu Meke. " There will be a baby farm here soon " remarked a member at the meeting of the Benevolent Trustees to-day, apropos of the increasingnuniber of deserted infants coming into the hands of the Trustees for maintenance. Mr. Kenny. S.M., heard this afternoon a case in which John Grant, of Woodville, journalist, and Robert Stains (by his attorney, Mr. Kirkcaldie) sued Thomas Dwan for £31 2s and JCIB. It is alleged that the defendant twice seized certain printing plant belonging to the plaintiffs in a priuting-ollice in Willis-street occupied by W. U. Stewart, and threatened lo sell the goods for rent due to him. Plaintiffs paid the amount due (£3l 2s), and now claimed to recover that sum, together with £18 as damages for the seizure. Plaintiff was nonsuited. The total number of unemployed assisted by the Department of Labour during last month was 155 (SO married and 75 single), with 353 persons dependent on them. The numbers for Wellington were 59 married and 47 single (making a total of 10b"), with 267 dependent on them. ' At a meeting held last week it was unanimously decided to form a Wellington Pigeon, Canary, and Cage-bird Association. Rules were also adopted, and the following officers elected :— President, Mr. F. Townsend ; Vice-Presidents, Messrs. H. D. Bell, E. B. Bristow, L. P. Christeson, and J. W. Hackworth ; Hon. Treasurer, Mr. Erskiue ; Hon. Sec, Mr. T. Donovan ; Committee, Messrs. Fallu, O'Brien, Murphy, Bailey, Ballingall, Cooper, Bradley, and Guthrie. An elderly man named Charles Morgan,' who had been looking after Mr. Clapham's property at Muritai, near Day's Bay, has been missing since 20th February. Morgan was of eccentric habits. On the 20th he was seen in a ragged slate at Wainui-o-mata, when he said he had been in the bush for three days. Since then he has not been seen. Constable Cruickshank, of Lower Hutt, h now making search. Cable advice was received yesterday of the death at Melbourne of Mr." C. C. Murray, of the firm of Murray, Roberts & Co., of this city. Deceased was well known here as having been the managing partner for the North Island, and he always took an active interest in sporting matters. Mr. Murray left this colony some time ago to act as managing partner in the firm of John Sanderson and Co., at Melbourne. Sloaue, claim £10, judgment went for the defendant, with £?> Ws co^ts. This was a case in which one dealer sought to recover from auother dealer certain articles. Mr. Knight appeared for the plaiuliff and Mr. Skorrett deleuded. The annual general meeting of Ihe Swifts Football Club will be held at the Trocadero 1 his evening. Mr. W. F.
