THE MEN STILL DETERMINED.
(Received December 24, 11.50 a.m.) London, 23rd December. Mr. Barnes, Secretary of the Engineers' Society, states tbat the engineers of Manchester, Newcastle, Glasgow, and other centres refuse to resume work unless the hours of labours are reduced and the old conditions of employment are conceded. The local fund in aid of the locked-out engineers has been supplemented by the following subscriptions, acknowledged by Mr. Andrew Collins: — Boilermakers' Society, Wellington, £5 ; a member of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners, , per H. Eansom, £1 7s 6d ; Westport Miners' Union. £1 ; A Friend, 11s. To-day Mr. Collins received a cheque for £30 forwarded by Mr. R. M' Murray, of N.ipier, on behalf of the Amalgamated Society of Engineers, as a first contribution towards the strike fund.
