KAIKOURA, FOR LONDON.
This afternoon the New Zealand Shipping Co'i Ino steamer Kaikoura, Captain Forbes, naila hence fdr London via Monte Vjdeo, Teneriffe, and Plymouth, with a full cargo of wool, meat, dairy produce, 4c, and the following passengers :- - Misses Trnacott (2), Mesdamea Bustiogs, Trus cott, Meaitrs Pow«ll, Bastings, Kitto, Cousinn, Jobiuorr, Marshall, WortJey, Forward ; for Monto Video— Mrs Bennett, Messrs Bennett, Bailey. Owing to the late hour at which the steamer completed her loading, we are unable to furnish particulars of her cargo to-day. MATATUA, FOB LON DON. Another big cargo carrier, in the shape of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Co s steamer Matatun, is leaving Wellington for London about 5 thin afternoon with a full cargo, comprising meat, wool, &c. Included in the vessel's freight are tome 17,000 carcasea meat and 4000 bales wool. Captain Anderson. Marine Superintendent of the Sbaw-Savill and Albion Co in the South Inland, pasrred tirougli Wellington on his way to Dunedin to-day. He has been engaged on businesf connected with the company with reference t" the Matutua's visit to Picton. The Monowai, from Sydney, arrived alongside the Queen's Wharf at midnight last night. Sh» left the Australianjport at 1.16 am on Sunday, experienced N, NVW, and NE winds, with flue weather, to the 21st, thence moderate and fresh easterly winds to arrival. Both on the trip to Sydney and back the steamer gave good ■teaming performancM, the yussago which «ndtd tat night
having occupied 3 days 22^ hours. Her cargo consisted of 900 tons, of which (including 500 cases fruit) 500 tons were for Wellintrton. The steamer Elingauiite, which supersedes the Anglian in the Sydney-New Zealand trade, will be under the command of Captain Alfred H. Thorpe, who will have associated with him the following officers :— Chief, Mr WillcocVs, at present chief officer of the Anglian; second, Mr Entwi.stle; third, Mr M'Giffeu. Mr M'Gregor will be iv charge of the engine-room, assisted by Mr F. Churchward and Mr Webster, as second and third engineers respectively. The fourth engineer has not yet been appointed. The Elingnmite is the second largest boat in the Huddart-Parker fleet, and has recently been thoroughly overhauled iv every department, new boilers having been fitted, and a general renovation token place. She leaves Sydney on sth January. The Anglian takes her place in the Melbourne-Sydney run.
