AN ALLEGED ILLEGAL OPERATION. Elizabeth Stennett, a married woman, was charged at the Magistrate's Court this morning before Mr. Eyre Kenny, S.M., with having attempted an illegal operation upon a young girl in her teens. Ser-geant-Major Mason conducted the case for the police, and Mr. Wilford appeared for the defence. His "Worship ordered the Court to be cleared, and after evidence had bean heard at some length, and of such a character that regard for our readers debars us from giving the details, he committed the accused for trial. She reserved her defence, the bail already given was renewed. The only cases dealt with this morning were those of Griffith Fleming and John Clohesy, who were fined 10s and £1 respectively for drunkenness. This afternoon Daniel Henley, for the theft of a Gladstone bag containing clothing from the s.s. Tarawera, where he had been employed as " boots,'"' was sentenced to three months' imprisonment.
